Common hand-operated fans on the market fall into two design categories: purely mechanical and hybrid electric. The first type directly drives the fan blades by hand pressure and has no internal battery; the second type has a built-in lithium or nickel-metal hydride battery, converting the kinetic energy generated by pressing the button into electrical energy for continuous power supply during use.
To determine if a fan has a battery, observe its functions: fans that only blow air for a few seconds per press are usually mechanical; those with a USB charging port or that can blow air continuously for more than half an hour after pressing usually contain batteries. For example, some camping emergency fans can be charged by hand pressure and also have their usage time extended by batteries.
It should be noted that in hybrid electric designs, the efficiency of hand-operated power generation is relatively low, making them more suitable for emergency supplemental power. For example, pressing continuously for 5 minutes may only generate 10 minutes of low-power airflow. This type of design reduces the inconvenience of frequent battery replacements, but it also has limitations such as small energy storage capacity and the need for plug-in charging for extended use.
